Wake me up before you Go, Go.
Unfortunately my car didn't want to go go into gear. Like others I have found, a plastic bushing in my Saturn shifter busted ($0.25), but it's only sold connected to the shifter cables (~$200 + labor). Not wanting to take the route others I know (but will not mention) have and pay the full fix price of around $400 I found an easy solution using some zip ties and a battery terminal to reinforce the plastic bushing. Now everything works great and it only cost me $1.69. I saved around $400 and can redo it if it breaks again very quickly and easily. The other $30 fix with a machined part would have been better than the original even, in my engineering opinion.
Yeah for quick fixes. Looking at many comments on various websites this is a common problem and one that Saturn has known about. Seems a simple box of a couple hundred of the bushings would make for a happier customer base, though at the tradeoff of some rather high parts and labor revenue. Because of this there is now a market for custom made parts of these online.
Also got to use the new Google Spreadsheets. It's great for those little sheets you may need when away from your pc or want to share with others to edit real time. It's still in their labs and isn't released to the public yet as it has a few bugs and is still crooked (see pic) but will be nice compliment to their document creator (Writely) as well. Not MS Office competitors really but there for those w/o the immediate access to them. Also, hopefully it will eventually help push the open document standards.
