A Few Favorites: Free Software
Office suite:
OpenOffice.org - Word, Excel, PowerPoint equivalents. If I didn’t have a version of MS Office already, this is all I would use at home. Converts to and from WordPerfect or Word documents too, spell check, dictionaries, convert to PDF, etc. [www.OpenOffice.org]

Photo mgmt & touchup:
Picasa2 from Google. I just can’t say enough about this software, definitely one of my favorites, replaces all others. [picasa.com]
Web based email:
Gmail from Google. Best interface and ease of use. No spam and lots of options like forwarding, POP3 [http://gmail.google.com]
Web Browser:
Firefox – Tabbed browsing, live bookmarks, no popups, extensions, etc. MS is now copying for their next version of Explorer. [www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/]
Web Storage:
Gmail Drive shell extension – uses 1GB Gmail account for storage in 10MB chunks. Adds a drive to your computer so you just drag and drop to it. [www.softpedia.com]
