Vacation Bytes
Here is a list of the programs used that made things a lot easier for us. I'll just mention the basics such as Google Docs (itinerary), Google Maps, and The Weather Channel.
VNC: Allowed me to log in to my home pc and check on some things.
Pixelpipe: One of the more valuable (free) apps I have. It allows you to upload pics and video to numerous sites all at once instead of one by one like normal. Frequently uploaded all my pics to my online storage sites in case I lost my phone. It also allowed for easy blog/fb updating without having to manually upload each separate one. Qik is similar in that it uploads video but the Qik site actually hosts the video in Flash while Pixelpipe just uploads the Quicktime file which some sites choke on.
Orb Lite: While sitting playing cards in the hotel, the kids watched a movie on the only tv. We used Orb to stream live tv of the football game from my home pc to my iPhone. It makes the storage limitations of the iPhone a thing of the past (if you have 3G/wifi signal). It also can stream any other media or documents as well. I am wondering why the Slingplayer is not approved yet in the app store.
Sleep Machine: We used this some in the rougher hotels we stayed at. Plays a nice background "noise" (or combination of) such as a fan, ocean, crickets, etc to drown out the loud traffic noise or silence. Plus it has timers and such.
Bump: Pretty well known app that you use to exchange pics and contacts. With our friends having an iPhone as well, it made for easy transferring of pics between phones. We tried a similar app called "Mover" but could not get it to work.
Check Please: A very nice tip calculator. Allows for multiple settings, rounding, and even multiple parties.
